Older Solar Panels - Myths Debunked No. 2

Earlier adopters of solar technology in Canberra, now have older solar panel systems. Why is this a problem?

Firstly, the solar panel wattages have well and truly been superceded. In fact, they have more than doubled.

Secondly, the degradation of solar panels is something like 0.8% per annum. For example, if you had a 200 watt panel, EACH & Every year, the wattage produce decreases 1.6 watts, and with each passing year, this degradation increases - much like a snowball effect.

Another interesting thing to note is regarding performance. Many older solar panels, had a 12 to 15% efficiency (that is, converting solar energy into power), whereas modern solar panels typically have a 20 to 22% efficiency. & coupled with a number of panels (for e.g. 16, this represents huge solar generation gains). This rreinforces the argument, that much like any technology, it is wise to periodically update. For example, how old is your phone?
